Couture at Cannes

High fashion was everywhere this weekend at the Cannes Film Festival. The dresses were tailored perfectly and hair and makeup were flawless as celebrities stepped onto the red carpet. Here are some of our favorite ensembles of the evening:
We love Penelope Cruz in this embroidered gown by Marchesa.
Sonam Kapoor was striking in this one-of-a-kind Jean Paul Gaultier head-turner.
Diane Kruger showed off her fit body in this golden gown by Calvin Klein.

The woman in the tacky lavender gown is Penelope Cruz? It doesn’t look like her. I don’t she’d be caught dead in tasteless gown like that. The other two gown are gorgeous. The ladies should wear less makeup. The plastic face look is not becoming.
These are all great but Diane needs to teach her escort better footwear style. Looks like he tucked his pants in his socks.

I will never get used to the supposedly “cool or edgy” idea of athletic shoes with formal wear. Looks lazy and sloppy to me.

Diane’s gold dress is my favorite. She looks utterly stunning!!!! Isn’t her escort an ex cast member of Dawson’s Creek? :0
I’m surprised no one is mentioning how bony she looks in that gold dress. I do not think she looks “fit” at all. What a terrible example this is of starving yourself. Her hip bones have hard, square edges, not becoming or flowing at all. Her knee bone is poking through the lame’ as if a sharp-bladed knife were going to tare the flimsy fabric apart. Which gives the impression her thigh-bone is just that- a bone, with no flesh attatched. I think she looks dreadful. The second dress, white, with black detail, I find stunning; reminiscent of the 1920’s Art Deco interiors and architectural flourishes. Penelope Cruz is always pretty, but her look suppports and argument for bringing back the whale-bone corsett.
Pretty bitchy of me, right? Heh heh. O, well.
Actually I was thinking the same thing. I think the dress could be really beautiful, but she looks like she could use a cookie or a burger or something. I don’t think it is bitchy, I think it is the truth. Penelope looks great… I am pretty sure she just had a baby or is pregnant… although in that dress, I don’t think she is pregs. I just don’t remember if I heard she had her baby yet.

I loved Sonam Kapoor’s dress as well. Looking at what people are wearing is my sole reason for watching the awards!
The first two are nice but the gold gown is just too plain.

I like Sonam Kapoor’s gown the best. She looks stunning. Plus, she gets points in my book for trying such a bold dress.

The gold Calvin Klein has been done before. Gwyneth Paltrow rocked it on the 2011 Academy Awards red carpet and she looked much better in it than this chick. Hip bones jutting out under dress are not a good look!

I like Jean Paul dress the best, very elegant..Sonam rocks it too. Couldn’t Diane just comb her hair for the evening and have her date wear some proper shoes.. geesh.. his look has been done to death.

Why does Diane Kruger’s boyfriend have on tennis shoes? So annoying.
Forgot to comment on the gowns! Don’t like the poufy things on Penelope Cruz’s shoulders. She is top-heavy already and those don’t help. Like the rest of the dress, though. It’s a great color and I like the embroidery. Sonam Kapoor pulled off that Jean Paul Gaultier dress, but I think very few others could have. It reminds me of the dress Nicole Kidman wore — to the Oscars? The white one with the sort of wing details on the hips? That was a near miss, but she almost pulled it off, I thought. I like the Calvin Klein dress. Love how drapy it is on the bottom. You would have to be in tip tip condition to wear it, and Diane Kruger is. I also happen to think it complements her coloring.
I can only imagine how much these could cost…

I ADORE Kruger’s CK dress…. I think it is absolutely stunning! The fabric is definitely unforgiving, so I think it accentuates, if not even sharpens certain angles. I personally wouldn’t say she looks too thin..?
